Case Study
Bhungroo
- It works on three primary principles
- ASR (Aquifer storage and recovery)
- MARR (Managed Aquifer Recharge and Recovery)
- Vertical Drainage
- In river plain where clay and/or silt formation is higher
- The design has to be made based upon subsoil detailing
- In further areas from river bank where rock/murram formation is higher
- The design has to be totally different ie depth, dia etc
- In some cases, you might be needing Vertical Drainage
- In coastal areas the design will be defined based upon subsoil water gradient and porosity
Highlighting Points
- Water lenses, to be stored at subsoil
- Top soil gets back soil moisture
- Existing soil moisture takes care of monsoon/wet cropping in winter period (the cash crop period)
- Farmers has used the injected water from subsurface storage for winter irrigation from a lesser depth
Surface Water Treatment
It is located at Gaipur Notun para (near Gobardanga Hindu College), district North 24 Parganas, West Bengal
